A late goal from Bath meant that Teddington HC came out on the wrong side of a narrow game away from home in Somerset. Murray Collins reports on the team's fixture.
After a tight affair last weekend which ultimately saw the Teddies take home three points, the boys in pink knew they were in for another close battle away at Bath this weekend.
Q1 kicked off and both teams managed to string together promising patterns of play. It was tightly contested with neither team managing to make a real clear cut breakthrough, until Bath benefitted from a lucky deflection of the ball to edge ahead within the 15 minute mark.
Seeking revenge, Teddington started the second quarter with a more disciplined and systematic approach, knocking the ball around for lengthy periods of possession, but still the opening wouldn't come. Step forward, Mitch - the Teddington dynamo who found a piercing ball into the heart of the Bath defence and sure enough, like clockwork Olympian Matt Daly arrived taking the visitors level in the dying seconds of the half.
Teddington's McConnell began to pull the strings and help Teddies increase the tempo and possession, but still the deciding goal was proving elusive. Q4 saw a number of promising chances come to nothing and the last quarter saw frustration turn to despair when Bath turned in a scrappy goal to finish the game.A game of chances and sadly this week not of goals for Teddington.
With a week off to reflect, they will prepare to bounce back with another away game in Brighton in 2 weeks time.
