Changes to the high street: the Teddington businesses that opened and closed during 2023
Despite the challenges of the cost-of-living crisis, Teddington has seen a range of new businesses open their doors across the town in 2023.
But the year did also see some closures, including Planet Organic's brief stint on the high street.
As 2023 comes to a close, we have taken a quick look back at some of these local businesses.
Open for business
The year started off with Planet Organic's 14th health retail shop coming to little Teddington, hoping to make a roaring trade.
In addition to the other charity shops on the high street, The British Heart Foundation opened a store.
Local charity FARA also opened another store, FARA Kids, which is bigger to cope with rising demands.
Buzzylizzy opened a new site in Teddington Cricket Club in Bushy Park, helping mums and mums-to-be keep fit.
Teddington Broad Street has recently welcomed Gail's to its coffee crawl line along the high street.
Closing its doors
First and foremost, Planet Organic shut up shop almost as quickly as it opened. Only two months after it opened, the store stopped trading.
Similarly on the eco-health store trade, we said goodbye to the Refill Larder this year too.
Long-time local businesswoman Lisa Eley moved to Devon, closing her bespoke jewellery shop Amulette and transferred it online.
Another friendly face missing from the high street is Halifax bank, which announced its closure as most of its customers manage their money online.
Finally, Woof Coffee closed suddenly on 21 October- merely a day after it announced the date on social media.
