Refill Larder has announced it will be closing in the next couple of weeks after just over five years of trading.

Motivated by reducing packaging, the plastic-free store offered an alternative to the supermarket with eco-friendly cleaning and bathroom products, local produce, as well as loose organic food like nuts, grains and pulses.

A statement from Kate and the team said: "I'm thankful to all our regular customers who have calmly waited in line week after week for slowly moving hand cream, overflowing olive oil and fast flying oats.

"It's been such a wonderful experience getting to know so many of you over the last few years; we'll miss the chats, tips and being part of the local community."

Reasons for the store's closure is said to be mainly financial, with rents, rates and costs continuing to rise.

No final closing date has been confirmed, so visitors can stock up on their favourite goods in the meantime.

The Refill Larder also said it will continue to restock food and cleaning products over the next couple of weeks.

Rather than let the eco-friendly business close its doors for the final time, the Refill Larder team encourage anyone who is full of energy and ideas to get in touch to discuss.

Continuing the refill culture in the Teddington community, at a different store location, is also on the cards.

Launched in September 2018, the Refill Larder was opened in response to the lack of plastic-free options available for day-to-day household items and food in the local supermarkets.

"I hope between us we made a little difference in helping to reduce waste locally and encouraging a few new people to rethink their habits," Kate added.

"Thank you again for all the support, recommendations and general joy that has passed through the shop over the years."
