The Teddington Cheese has recalled all of Kirkham Lancashire Cheese sold since 1 October over worries products may contain E.Coli.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has alerted vendors that products from Mrs Kirkham's Lancashire Cheese Ltd might be contaminated with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, (STEC).

Symptoms caused by STEC organisms include severe diarrhoea (including bloody diarrhoea), abdominal pain, and sometimes haemolytic uremic syndrome, (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal.

In a post on facebook, the local cheese company said: "If you have already eaten the cheese please rest assured that the risk is exceedingly low. If you have some remaining please follow the FSA guidance and do not consume it."

The Lancashire cheeses are sometimes sold as a full block or served as individual portions, it may have been provided as part of a hamper you've purchased or been gifted. In some cases it's been sold as part of a charcutier grazing platter.

It added: "Ensure the product is thoroughly wrapped and do not let it come into contact with other foods. Wash your hands, equipment, utensils and surfaces that may have come into contact with the product."

The FSA said on its website: "It may not always be clear whether you have purchased an affected product. If in doubt, consumers are advised to contact the retailer they bought their cheese from to find out if the cheese they have purchased is from the businesses and batches affected."

The Teddington Cheese store will reopen on 28 December and will be able to arrange refunds.
