Masterpieces of 1950’s Cinema

This engaging lecture (the third in a continuing series) explores the cinematic masterpieces of the 1950s, featuring curated clips from landmark films and contextual insights. The session highlights the historical, cultural, and professional contexts of the decade, comparing it to earlier eras. The workshop will address the challenges and innovations that shaped filmmaking in the 1950s, offering a deep dive into the era's legacy.

Discover how post-War challenges—rock 'n' roll, troubled teenagers, domestic liberation for women, nuclear anxiety, and societal shifts—reshaped the cinematic landscape. Attendees will learn how Hollywood studios, at their technical peak, grappled with the changing times, paving the way for a new generation of filmmakers by the end of the decade.

Times: 7-9.30pm

Fee: £25
