Don't drive to Bushy Park this weekend, visitors told

Bushy Park visitors have been told to leave their cars at home if they plan on coming to the park this weekend.

Motorists were forced to turn around last Saturday after finding all the car parks full in our popular green space.

The Royal Parks wants to avoid a repeat of the extremely busy scenes and has now discouraged car travel.

The charity said: "Last weekend, the first of this lockdown, large numbers of people travelled to Bushy Park to get some valuable time outside.

"Access to parks and green spaces is especially important for everyone at the moment and the number of cars caused car parks to fill up quickly, resulting in serious congestion and gridlock in the surrounding area.

"Unfortunately that meant many people spent hours stuck in traffic instead of enjoying the benefits of being in the park.

"To avoid a similar situation we are asking people not drive to Bushy Park this weekend, as drivers may not be able to enter the park.

"If you usually drive because you live far away, please consider visiting somewhere local.

"Take care and enjoy your weekend."

Last weekend visitors posted photos of overflowing bins in the park.

Traffic ground to a halt, forcing cars to turn around on arrival.

The popularity of the park continued into this week too.

Yesterday (Thursday, November 12) all car parks filled up before noon.
