Teddington Station’s new lifts have official opening

The new lifts at Teddington Station had an official opening today (Friday 23 May) at 2pm, and was attended by the new Mayor of Richmond, Councillor Penelope Frost, and local MP Munira Wilson.
However, the lifts officially went into service on 7 March after a five-month delay.
At the time, Mike Woods, Leader of The Teddington Society's Roads and Transport Group said: "Finally Lift Off for the lifts at Teddington Station.
"On behalf of the Teddington Society, we are delighted that the lifts are now in operation. The Teddington Society has campaigned for many years to get this improvement which will benefit all Teddington residents and visitors alike.
Our previous Transport Group leader, Brian Holder, relentlessly led this campaign and I speak on behalf of the Society in acknowledging the great debt we owe to Brian."

Originally, the lifts were set to open in October, but this was delayed until the end of December, and was then again delayed until March.
The new lifts should improve accessibility for elderly and disabled travellers, as well as families with young children and heavy prams.
The £3.6m 'Access for All' scheme began in September 2023 and has seen two lifts opening between the two platforms on Station Road and Victoria Road.
The two lifts have a capacity of 16 people each.
