Network Rail revealed today that the much-anticipated new lifts at Teddington Station should open for use before the end of the year.

The lifts, which should improve accessibility for elderly and disabled travellers, as well as families with young children and heavy prams, were initially supposed to open back in October.

However, "From November to February 2025 from 7:30am – 5:30pm daily, engineering teams will be testing the new lifts to ensure they are fully operational," says Network Rail.

It said: "During this time, we will install windows in the lift link lobbies and set up new lighting at the station's footbridge, ticket office and waiting area.

"We expect when all the major milestones in the programme are finished, we'll open the lifts to passengers by the end of December 2024.

"From the end of December, we will enter a fault-free running testing period, where they will be open for passenger use while we monitor them operationally.

"More information about this and the planned formal opening ceremony will be released closer to the time."

The £4.2m 'Access for All' scheme began in July 2023 and will see two lifts opening between the two platforms on Station Road and Victoria Road.
