The roof of a local Sainsbury's could soon be covered in solar panels, if plans are signed off by Richmond Council.

Sainsbury's has applied for planning permission for the 678 panels on the roof of its supermarket on Uxbridge Road.

The application says the solar panels would have a combined power output of 288.15kW.

In its 2024 annual report the supermarket giant said: "We have an ongoing programme of installing solar photovoltaics (PV) panels across our estate, increasing on-site renewable electricity generation."

One neighbour has raised concerns about the application, saying: "My concern is bright sunlight being reflected back onto my house by the solar panels.

"Also, will there be any noise generated by the solar panels.

"We already suffer with a constant hum from the recently installed air conditioning units."
