A pub in Teddington is set to host an exhibition celebrating the strength, athleticism, and physicality of women in rugby.

'Breaking the Lines', which is curated by local artist Agnieszka Lokaj, will begin on Wednesday 8 April at The Lion pub on Wick Road, marking the start of the Six Nations.

A private viewing will run from 6pm - 9pm on the day, offering the chance to meet Lokaj.

A special focus will be placed on local, community connections to women's rugby, alongside new portraits of elite players that capture the intensity and skill of the game.

Lokaj  is a Twickenham-based artist working in semi-abstract portraiture.

Her paintings explore strength, resilience and identity, with a particular focus on women's rugby, capturing moments of intensity, movement and emotional presence.

Drawing inspiration from both elite sport and her local community, Agnieszka's work celebrates the growing visibility of women's sport and the individuality of the athletes she portrays.

The artist also curated a women's rugby World Cup-themed exhibition at The Beach art gallery in Teddington in September last year, which aligned with the Red Roses' victory at the global tournament in Twickenham.

Speaking about the exhibition, Lokaj told Nub News: "I'm very excited to exhibit at The Lion, a local pub that truly supports our community and women's rugby.

"Timing this exhibition with the Women's Six Nations tournament makes it even more special.

"Inspired by the dedication and resilience of the Red Roses, I aim to capture their strength and the unbreakable spirit of women in rugby.

"My hope is that viewers feel the energy and dynamism of the game and connect their own stories of strength with those of these incredible athletes."

Peter Scott, a member of the community consortium that bought The Lion in September last year, added: "For us it's an exciting opportunity to welcome an exceptional artist to the pub and to kick off the Women's Six Nations in style."

The first round of Women's Six Nations fixtures will be shown live at The Lion, which reopened in December 2025 after a two-year closure, on Saturday 11 April, making the pub a hub for both sport and art as the tournament gets underway.

You can book tickets for the tournament on the pub's website now here.
