Police are on the hunt for a gang of thieves after £2 million was reportedly raided from Richmond homes which feature in the TV show Ted Lasso.

The Sun reports that millions have been stolen during at least four reported burglaries around Richmond Green, and police think some of the raids are linked.

The Sun further reports that locals believe the raids are inspired by the Apple TV+ show, which was largely filmed in Richmond, including Richmond Theatre, Richmond Hill, Richmond Green and The Prince's Head Pub.

Richmond Green locals say they were targeted after the homes appeared in the hit comedy-drama starring Jason Sudeikis.

Four homes, including a £3.3 million property belonging to Hannah Waddingham's character Rebcca Welton, were targeted.

But the occupants were woken and the suspects fled, leaving a ladder in the garden.

A safe containing jewellery was stolen from an eight-bedroom home on 2 November, prompting the tenants to move out, according to neighbours.

It is then reported that around £400,000 of jewellery was taken from a bolted-down safe in a four-bedroom house on 18 December.

Singer Richard Ashcroft, who formed the alternative rock band The Verve, reportedly had valuables worth around £1million, items including a Patek Philippe watch, stolen from his £8million home in December.

One of his neighbours said they called 999 after hearing the alarm go off in Ashcroft's home, but the culprits had fled by the time police arrived.

They told The Sun: "The police would have stood a good chance of catching the gang if they turned up when called.

"But now the gang are free to find their next target. We're all now living in fear."

According to The Sun, Met Police believe the break-ins were carried out by a gang of professional burglars from South America.

Detective Chief Inspector Dan Sullivan told this newspaper: "We are aware of a number of burglaries in the Richmond Green area and are taking proactive steps to deter offenders and reassure residents. Enquiries are ongoing.

"It is believed that some of the break-ins may be linked. Anybody who witnesses a burglary in progress should contact 999, or 101 to report suspicious behaviour or information regarding the perpetrators."
