October was set to be a big month for sports fans as they would finally be allowed to return to sports stadiums.
This however will not be the case now.
The rise in Coronavirus cases means the plans are now on hold.
Locally many people were worried about 40,000 people descending on Twickenham Stadium next month.
This event will now have to be postponed.
The future of the Twickenham Drive-In coronavirus test centre is now unclear as it was scheduled to close at the end of September due to fans returning to Twickenham.
This news will be a bitter blow for lower-league clubs who rely on ticket revenue to survive.
Speaking to BBC Breakfast cabinet minister Michael Gove said:
"We were looking at a staged programme of more people returning - it wasn't going to be the case that we were going to have stadiums thronged with fans," he said.
"We're looking at how we can, for the moment, pause that programme, but what we do want to do is to make sure that, as and when circumstances allow, get more people back.
"The virus is less likely to spread outdoors than indoors but again it's in the nature of major sporting events that there's a lot of mingling."
