Gail's is set to open with a brand-new interior in Planet Organic's old premises on 60-62 Broad Street Thursday 30 November.  

The London-based bakery chain sells fresh hand-baked breads, pastries and sandwiches everyday, prioritising quality and seasonal ingredients. 

A spokesperson from Gail's has exclusively revealed the design inspiration behind the new store in Teddington's quaint high street.

A quirk of Teddington is that it is home to the National Physical Laboratory (one of whose jobs is to regulate Greenwich Mean Time) and marks the highest tidal reach up the river Thames.  

The two facts are said to have made Gail's "go all cultural" and think of Geoffrey Chaucer's proverb: "Time and tide wait for no man".  

The bakery company said the proverb "encourag[ed] us to make good use of favourable opportunities, in case we never get the same chance again". 

Gail's team said they have approached this previously fitted out site as: "a gift to be sensitively and sustainably adapted to a wonderful neighbourhood bakery."

The spokesperson said: "Under an inherited ink black ceiling, we have created a light, warm and generous space where locals can gather for coffee or simply buy their daily bread.  

"The varying tones of the porcelain tiles ripple across the floor as tide marks in the sand and the play with contours continues into the muted cream render on the walls and counters that has been hand crafted into a subtle pattern. 

"There is an openness to the overall design with the kitchen and baker's oven being completely on show as you enter the bakery.  

"To balance out the openness, chunky, sandblasted oak and ash joinery sit with real presence in the space. The chunky banquette seats are upholstered in an innovative pineapple leather called Pinatex." 

Catering to up to 78 people inside, the new Gail's store will also be able to serve approximately eight people outside.
