DATES: Monday 3rd & Tuesday 4th August

TIMES: 10am – 1pm

Develop your observational drawing skills through close study of plant forms. This two-day course introduces botanical illustration alongside an exploration of plant biology, encouraging participants to look closely at structure, texture and detail. Working from natural materials, you will build confidence in both quick sketches and more extended studies, supported by guided exercises and discussion.

Suitable for beginners and those with some experience, the course focuses on strengthening core artistic principles while developing a deeper understanding of the natural world. Participants will leave with completed studies and greater confidence in observing and representing plant life.

Materials Required:

Mid sized or large sketchbook OR loose leaf paper, Pencils (HB – 4B range ideal), Pens (any fineliner or ballpoint)

Optional: Watercolour/Gouache palettes, Brushes, Coloured pencils, Eraser, Plant material

Tutor:

Molly Weston is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice brings together observational drawing, biology and creative experimentation. Holding degrees in both Art and Biology from the University of Washington, her work is informed by a longstanding interest in plant life, morphology and close observation. Alongside her artistic practice, Molly has experience in gallery operations, exhibition support and community engagement through her work with the Jacob Lawrence Gallery in Seattle. Her creative interests extend across drawing, painting, collage and music, with a particular focus on connecting artistic and scientific ways of seeing. Through teaching and workshop facilitation, she encourages participants to explore observation, curiosity and creativity in a supportive environment.
