A very significant week on several fronts in the 2022/3 season as Southgate's 10 game win streak was brought to an end by the Teddington Men who marched on and continued their 100% home record for the season.

After a disappointing game last week, the first quarter saw Teddington stun the league leaders with their renowned brand of fluid hockey.

Ed Greaves, always available in the danger zone, slotted in a loose ball travelling across the D after an expertly crafted Teddies' attack. Momentum was in their favour as the raucous home crowd got behind the Teddies and Southgate struggled to get a foothold in the game.

Teams don't go 10 unbeaten without showing a fighting spirit and after a string of Southgate corners, they finally pounced on a rebound to level the game on the stroke of half-time.

The game then went full-on end-to-end in the second half and as several players tired and the tension mounted, an energetic Southgate attack brought out some fantastic defence from Teddington and a top quality performance from George Oyebode who repelled a string of corners.

With a short corner at the other end, who better to break the deadlock, than Jags Gill who stepped up to rifle his 250th National League goal into the top right corner.

Falling behind and with the home crowd upping the pressure, Southgate took the brave decision to pull their keeper off in an effort to overcome the unbreachable Teddies' defence with 11 outfield players.

After a string of attacks, a 16-yard hit from the back offered the chance for Gill to throw the ball over 65 yards, finding Ed Greaves in a 1v1 foot race against the deepest Southgate defender. True to form, he added to his tally with another tap in from three yards and the Teddies were in dreamland.

In the final play of the game, Teddies' won a penalty corner and Jags Gill took his tally to 251, pinning it past Kwan Browne who stood on the line in place of the keeper.

A stunning all-round performance from Teddington to truly shock the league leaders and solidify their 2nd place in the League. It was the perfect precursor to this Friday's derby match at Old Cranleighans in Thames Ditton.
