Teddington Ladies made the trip to Lee Valley Hockey Centre at Olympic Park to meet a combative Wapping 1s. The pressure was certainly on as Teeddington came off second best in last season's fixture. Charlotte Kerr reports of Teddington's away trip.
Teddington applied real pressure from the first whistle and it looked like it would be rewarded when captain Eleanor Jolly took a strike at Wapping's keeper who initially saved the shot, but the ball rebounded into Mai Garcia Moritan, who then managed to touch it into goal.
The umpire initially blew his whistle to confirm it had gone in, but on reassessment altered his decision for an infringement. Frustration for the visitors who had further offensive opportunities, including several short corners, but were unable to get past the keeper.
Only a few minutes into the second half Wapping were able to secure a breakaway towards Teddington's goal. After some scrappy sticks in the D, Wapping capitalised on the opportunity and put the ball past the keeper.
Despite conceding, Teddington battled on, with balls being fired into Wapping's D from midfielders Alex Hurst and Kate Wooldridge. The team had a frustrating day in front of goal having created numerous chances and they ran out to a tight 1-0 loss. .
A tough one to take this week, but the team were delighted to see notable performances from Olivia D'Castro and Kate Wooldridge, who were nominated as joint players of the match.
