After a week's break since a fine 6-2 win away against Chiswick, the Teddington Ladies 1s were keen to maintain their winning ways as they faced Wanderers at home. Eleanor Jolly reports on Teddington's victory.
After an impromptu off-pitch warm-up that included both netball and rugby skills on show, Teddington were ready to go.
The home team started the game well and forced the Wanderers goalkeeper to make several early saves. The visitor's defence stood strong however and despite heavy pressure, they were the ones to find the back of the net following a breakaway to go 1-0 up after 10 minutes.
Teddington reacted from the restart and continued to attack with some great passing moves and individual skill. Jude King scored the equaliser, deflecting in a top of the D reverse shot into the bottom corner.
Teddies then maintained the pace of attack, with the Wanderers' goalkeeper making numerous saves both in open play and from short corners. A short corner just before half time allowed Teddington to take the lead with an inch perfect drag flick from Tamar Cooper.
The second half saw Teddington creating more opportunities to extend the lead, but they were kept at bay by a resilient defence. A solid 2-1 win sets the team up for an exciting top of the table clash next weekend away at London Wayfarers.
