Teddington RFC faithful make the perfect performance
Prior to the match on Saturday, Teddington RFC held their first lunch of the season.
As always, a well-attended event and a great chance to reconnect with Antlers players and supporters of seasons gone by as well welcoming some new ones into the fold.
The lunch guests were then treated to another 1st XV master class as they extended their unbeaten run to 37 matches and stretched this season's league haul to 7 wins from 7 with 7 try bonus points.
Heady times at Bushy Park. The visitors this week were Old Walcountians RFC, a club who the Antlers have crossed swords with many times over past seasons.
Despite the recent wet weather, the game kicked off in a rare spell of autumnal sunshine and it was Walcountians who did most of the probing.
It's probably not an exaggeration to say that OW's enjoyed 75% of the possession in the first 30 minutes, but so confident are Teddington now without the ball, that they never looked in trouble.
They soaked up attack after attack safe in the knowledge that when the chances came they have become fairly adept at taking them.
The first try came from the visitor's possession, with Joe STAINER pouncing on a charged down kick to put the league leaders 7-0 to the good.
A try from Josh McKEIRNAN and a second from STAINER pushed the score out to 19-0 at the break. In the second half Teddington started to control proceedings.
Bob BEEVERS, who was celebrating his 100th appearance for the club, was finding excellent field positions and the line out was now functioning after misfiring in the first period.
Further trys from Max AITKEN and Dan ROBERTSHAW kept the scoreboard moving as the hosts an into a 31-0 lead.
A yellow card for the Antlers didn't stop the flow of trys as AITKEN doubled his tally before Walcountians crossed for a consolation try.
Teddington had the last say though with prolific try scorer and scrum half Angus BELL going over to complete an impressive win.
Time will tell where this unbeaten run goes from here, but what is evident is that this squad has real strength in depth now, with a strong 2nd XV pushing for selection each week and a perfect environment for the junior players at the club to progress into senior rugby.
That will stand us in good stead as winter sets in and plenty of challenges await.
Final Score Teddington RFC 43 Old Walcountians RFC 7. Man of the Match Joe STAINER.
The 2nd XV travelled to Old Haileyburians on Saturday to take on a team who had not lost yet in the Merit Table.
As mentioned above this Teddington team are really starting to flourish now, with consistent selection really being the key to making things click. The Antlers came away with an impressive victory.
Cam FISH and Tom CRANMER were amongst the try scorers, with the bonus point victory now placing Teddington in the top 3 with Old Haileyburians and Old Rutlishians.
Final Score Old Haileyburians 2nd XV 12 Teddington 2nd XV 24.
