Teddington RFC grind out win at East Grinstead
The 1st XV took to the road last week to take on East Grinstead in Surrey/Sussex Counties 1.
East Grinstead are new opponents for Teddington, this being the first time the sides have met in league action.
Like Teddington, East Grinstead had a successful run in last season's Papa Johns Cup, losing out in the semi finals to Wensleydale, who the Antlers met in the final on that memorable day in May.
So, this one, like them all, was set to be another test of Teddington's credentials.
The first half went according to plan, with try's from James FRANKENBERGER, Max AITKEN, Jack VALENTINE and Ed HUSSEY ensuring the bonus point was secured and the league leaders turned around 24-3 to the good.
Unfortunately, that was about as good as it got in terms of the Antlers points tally, with a Bob BEEVERS penalty being the only contribution to the scoreboard.
Luckily, East Grinstead could only add a single try of their own and the win was secured.
There was a standout performance from vice-captain Jack CAPON with his trademark tackles and strong ball carrying.
Teddington have now collected maximum points from 8 games, with only 3 teams left to play before the fixtures are reversed.
The final one of those 3 on the 9th December looks to be a real firecracker when the Antlers travel to Weybridge Vandals who have also been hugely impressive in recent weeks and lie second behind the unbeaten Antlers.

The 2nd XV entertained Old Walcountians at Bushy Park on Saturday, looking to keep up their challenge at the top of the merit table.
They came quickly out of the blocks scoring two trys and racing into a 12-0 lead.
Those were quickly cancelled out by two from the visitors, before a penalty from the hosts on the stroke of half time gave them a 15-10 lead.
A length of the field effort from the OW's left winger completed his hat trick and a fine performance and the game was in the balance.
The Antlers responded by in the last 20 minutes, by moving their opponents around before Emmo ALLEN went over in the right-hand corner.
Skipper Jasper GIBB added a fourth try in the dying minutes to put the gloss on a Teddington win.
Final Score Teddington 2nd XV 29 Old Walcountians 2nd XV 15. Man of the Match Sam O BRIEN.
The 3rd XV were in action for only the second time this season when they travelled to Esher.
It was a dogged performance form an experienced Teddington side, but Esher's sizeable pack got gave them the edge in this one and victory eluded the Antlers.
Final Score Esher Vets 31 Teddington 3rd XV 12. Man of the Match Harry GLOVER
