Earlier this afternoon Nub News reported on the return of Teddington's 'beach' as sun-seekers flocked to the rocky stretch of land between the Lock bridges.

But when Nub News returned to the scene a couple of hours later, the gathering at the beach had gone.

It came to an early end as water brought in by the spring tide covered the space where sunbathers had been.

The return of the beach today caused controversy, with commenters on social media disagreeing on whether it was a good idea.

Teddington Boat Shop was not a fan of the return and asked the Council and Teddington Police on Twitter to "nip it in the bud."

During last summer's heatwave police were called to the Lock after people were seen jumping from the bridge into the Thames

In guidance released last year, Richmond Council warned against going in the river on hot days as this is dangerous especially for inexperienced swimmers and people who've been drinking alcohol.
