Over one hundred precious musical instruments from the famous Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall, Twickenham, go under the hammer in the next 24 hours.

The collection of 121 ex-Royal Military Band instruments include French horns, saxophones, bass clarinets, violins, cellos and trumpets and bidding is due to end at 10am tomorrow morning (Tuesday)

The online auction is run by a company called Ramco, based in Lincolnshire, which specialises in managing the disposal of surplus assets for a wide range of businesses and Government organisations.

A spokesperson for Ramco said: "Following on from the very successful auction last year we are pleased to offer this fantastic opportunity again to purchase ex-Royal Military Band instruments extracted from Kneller Hall - Royal Military School of Music, training musicians for the British Army."

In normal circumstances customers would have a chance to view the items but because of the COVID-19 outbreak, all stock must be 'sold as seen.'

One of the top current bids is £2600 for a saxophone.

Kneller Hall is a large mansion in Whitton and houses the Royal Military School of Music, training musicians for the British Army, which acquired the building in the mid-19th century. It is also home to the school's Museum of Army Music.

The Army is scheduled to vacate the site this year and final concerts are due to be held in June this year, depending on the COVID-19 situation.
