Teddington Weir Island has been closed to the public by the Environment Agency due to anti-social behaviour.

All access points have been fenced off with signs reading "Due to recent anti-social behaviour and in consultation with RBC and Met Police this area has been closed to the pubic".

No time frame has been indicated on when the restrictions will be lifted.

Richmond is viewed as a low-crime area however in recent months the borough has suffered a wave of anti-social behaviour as temperatures have risen in the summer months.

Friday 15 July saw police and members of the Council's Park Guard security team deal with over 300 teens on Richmond Green involved in drinking and anti-social behaviour.

Richmond police were also forced into triggering a 24 hour anti-social, crime and policing order act in correlation with students finishing their GCSE results following evidence of serious disorder last weekend around Teddington Lock, which included violence, a sexual assault and anti-social behaviour in early June.

The dangers of the river Thames have also been highlighted this week following the tragic death of 14-year-old Brian Sasu, who drowned after getting into difficulty in the river at Taggs Island, Hampton, late on Monday afternoon.

Safety pleas from Richmond Council and RNLI Teddington have been issued this week, urging youngsters to avoid jumping from bridges in the hot weather.
