Temperatures in Teddington are set to soar over the next couple of days, as the long-anticipated August bank holiday heatwave arrives later than many hoped for.

Highs of 29 degrees are expected in Teddington, Bushy Park and areas of South London tomorrow (7 September) and Wednesday according to the latest Met Office forecast.

Following this, the temperature will drop to 21 to 22 degrees, still balmy but less sizzling.

Dan Harris, meteorologist at the Met Office, told the i newspaper today that: "The London area may get to a rounded 30 so 29.5 sort of thing and high 20s locally across England and Wales.

"That's going to last throughout much of the week but on Wednesday, we see temperatures dip ever so slightly but it will still be warm for many parts of the country."

Teddington was also warmer than usual today, with temperatures reaching 29 degrees.

The balmy weather brought small groups of people to the Lock, but not the crowds that had been seen earlier this summer.

Nub News did not see any divers from the bridge or people swimming in the channel, unlike in June and July earlier this year.

Last month new new giant red banners were put up by the Lock channel and bridges, warning of the risk of drowning or severe injury.
