Teddington RNLI saved three lives in 2024

Teddington RNLI's volunteer crew saved three lives in 2024. In all, the station's lifeboats were called out 113 times, with total launches reaching 130.
These headline figures demonstrate just how busy the Teddington lifeboat station, which is one of five stations on the Thames, is. However, the crew's work wasn't limited to going out on vital rescues.
Throughout 2024, the team also held 102 water safety events, helping everyone who lives near the river or visits the sea to understand the dangers and what to do if they get into trouble.
It checked 193 lifejackets free of charge, (and recommended that around half of them were replaced).
Moreover, the Teddington RNLI station held 43 fundraising events and received generous donations and legacies throughout the year.
Training was also undertaken on the water twice a week on average with 104 sessions throughout the year.
2024 saw the 200th anniversary of the charity's foundation and events took place throughout the year to celebrate this locally and nationally.
Volunteer crew members attended a special service at Westminster Abbey, took part in an historic boat row at Henley Regatta, helped with national photo-opportunities, and visited the Royal Albert Hall for the Letters Live event.
At a local level, there was an Open Day at the lifeboat station, a 200k relay run around the lock island, a 200k cycle ride, a crew and boat visit to the Village Fair and Christmas Lights Up, participation in the Remembrance Day parade, a sea shanty concert, the river blessing, and much more.
Matt Allchurch, Teddington's Lifeboat Operations Manager, said: "The achievements of all of our crew whether rescuers, educators, safety team, fundraisers, or advisors are commendable.
"Every member of Teddington RNLI is a volunteer. They give their time, expertise and often sleep for the good of our community.
"Everything that they have done in our 200th Anniversary year has been impressive and made a real difference. Look out for news of what is happening in 2025."
