Teddington Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) invited local resident Georgie to meet the crew as a thanks to her for raising £2,100 for the RNLI at her late husband Mick's funeral and to celebrate his memory.

Jon Chapman, who is a volunteer helm at the Teddington station, organised the visit when he found out through a mutual friend Anne that there'd been a fundraising for the RNLI at Mick's funeral.

He said "I thought this amazing gesture needed a visit so we could say thanks in person and so, on Saturday 15 February It was a pleasure to welcome Georgie, Anne, Georgie's parents and other friends to the lifeboat station to meet crew, have a tour and watch one of our lifeboats launch on exercise.

"I always love the opportunity to meet people whose generosity allows us to do what we do and to share with them how a lifeboat station operates.

"It was a great morning, they were lovely people, and we are very grateful indeed to Georgie and to Mick's other relatives and friends for their generosity in memory of Mick."

Mick was a keen sailor and a friend of one of Teddington RNLI's crew members.

Mick's name will also be inscribed on the wheelhouse of Exmouth's RNLI Shannon class lifeboat and will be alongside the crew each time they launch.

Anyone can have their name engraved into an RNLI lifeboat as part of the RNLI's commemoration scheme Launch a Memory.

The location of the Launch a Memory lifeboat changes according to availability and for Mick's name, Exmouth was the available location.

The RNLI is a charity solely funded by donations, so there is a suggested donation of £50/€50 per name.
