Teddington's humanitarian group, Mighty Convoy, set off at dawn on Sunday 11 January on its 21st mission, carrying one tonne of food and urgent medical supplies to Ukraine.

The volunteer convoy, led by organiser Simon Brake, includes eight people who will take turns driving the ambulance and two pick-up trucks on the 1,200-mile journey through France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, and into Ukraine.

The crew includes friends Stephen Ryder, 69, from Wiltshire, and Winkie Fry from Bruton, Somerset, who helped raise £7,000 for the mission.

Supplies include venison food pouches donated by the Country Food Trust and 150 medical kits.

Once in Ukraine, local military commanders and charities decide how best to deploy the vehicles and supplies, which could support the frontlines or civilians.

Since its inception in 2022, Mighty Convoy has sent 89 vehicles and countless aid supplies to Ukraine, funded entirely by volunteers raising money through community initiatives like cake sales, gym challenges, and church talks.
