A popular cafe on Teddington high street has temporarily closed after one of its members of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

The Fallow Deer , known for its all-day brunch menu and Friday night cocktails, shut its doors to customers on Saturday 26 June after an isolated covid-19 case was reported there.

In a statement that day, the cafe said: "To our lovely customers,

"There has been an isolated covid case reported at The Fallow and we've made the difficult decision to close from today for a few days for the safety of our customers and our team all who are all incredibly important to us.

"We will be taking advice first thing on Monday morning from the team who oversee Covid guidelines for the Richmond Borough to ensure that they are satisfied with the steps we're taking on this matter and in the hope that we'll only be closed for a couple of days while we get our heads around it all.

"Meanwhile we're doing our absolute best to get in touch with all customers who have reservations over the next few days.

"We can't wait to welcome you all back as soon as possible and will keep you posted.

"Much love as always and stay safe. Mother Deer and the Herd."

The cafe later confirmed that the covid case was reported by an employee at the cafe.

When asked if it was a customer or member of staff had fallen ill, the cafe responded: "A team member, however they have not been in work for a number of days.

"The rest of the team have all had negative results however we will be closed today as a precaution until we get the go ahead :) x"

Messages of support were soon posted and Teddington residents praised the cafe's caution.

Teddington hotel and restaurant The Park wrote: "Take care, friends.

"Let us know if there is anything we can do to help out."

A Facebook commenter added: "You are so great. Your attention to health and safety is faultless."

Just a day before they closed, the Fallow Deer hosted a Pride celebration and fundraiser for LGBT+ mental health charity London Friend , featuring a #SpinToWin wheel and an incredible rainbow cake.

We look forward to seeing this great Teddington cafe back soon!
