TEDDINGTON resident Jed Mercurio, famous for creating the hit TV series Line of Duty, has officially been awarded his OBE.
Mercurio received his medal from the Princess Royal at an investiture ceremony in Windsor Castle yesterday (February 1).
The screenwriter was given the honour in the Queen's 2020 New Year's list - more than a year ago - for services to TV drama.
Mercurio is best known as the creator of critically acclaimed police procedural Line of Duty.
But asked if there would be another series of the hit show upon receiving his award yesterday, he remained tight-lipped.
He told the PA news agency: "If that happens, I guess we'll tell people."
Asked for his proudest career moment, he said: "I think the fact that I'm still able to create television having been in the industry for a long time, I think recent years have been very difficult for a lot of people in the industry.
"A lot of people have suffered loss of livelihood and loss of employment, so I'm just counting my blessings."
In a post celebrating his achievement on Twitter, Mercurio wrote: "I was flattered and humbled to receive an OBE yesterday in the company of so many more deserving recipients.
"Thanks to the brilliant casts, crews and production teams I've worked with over the years, and also of course to the amazing fans, who've all made this honour possible."
The 55-year-old father of two is well-known in Teddington as a local resident.
He is also a key supporter of the Landmark Arts Centre, which puts on arts workshops and hosts cultural events at St Alban's church on Ferry Road.
Mercurio was a vocal supporter of a campaign to save the Landmark in 2020 after the pandemic struck and it took a major income hit.
£75,000 was raised from donations to the fundraiser and Mercurio, along with fellow Teddington resident the actress Amanda Root, became an official patron of the arts centre.
