Help raise money for a Teddington independent living charity by taking part in a Captain Tom 100 fundraising challenge this bank holiday.

Ruils is a local charity that supports children and adults with disabilities and the elderly to live independently, be part of their community and to live life to the full. It provides information, advice, befriending and activities to its clients and their families.

The organisation is one of many taking part in a national fundraising effort inspired by the late Sir Captain Tom Moore, who raised over £30 million for the NHS last year.

The challenge takes place this bank holiday weekend, from Friday 30 May to Monday 3 May.

How to get involved

  1. Come up with a challenge featuring the number 100! You could bake 100 cakes, score 100 goals, eat 100 malteasers or cycle 100km - the possibilities are endless.
  2. Set up a fundraising page to get sponsored, or make a donation to Ruils HERE

What the money raised will go towards

Funds raised will help Ruils provide a new befriending service, called 'Active at Home', to support its elderly and disabled clients gradually get out and about in a safe and supported way.

Many of Ruils' clients have been shielding for a year which has had a huge impact on their mental health and confidence, with some now too anxious to leave home.

The new service would see trained volunteers meeting the charity's clients at their home and supporting them to resume activities of their choice, such as walk to their local shop for a pint of milk.

Befrienders would also facilitate introductions to local community groups, once these restart, such as walking groups, choirs or art groups, helping people to reconnect with their community.
