A new Sainsbury's Local on Hampton Wick High Street will be having its grand opening on Thursday, 27 February at 9am.

At the opening, staff will cut the ribbon, and students from Hampton Wick Infants are expected to be in attendance.

Sainsbury's submitted an application to convert the former Painted Furniture Company, in 59-61 High Street, back in September and left a printed copy of the application in the site's window.

Upon seeing the application, many local residents as well as the Hampton Wick Association expressed their concerns regarding the new Sainsbury's as they worried that it would have a negative impact on independent local businesses.

They also worried about where Sainsbury's' delivery vans would park.

Back in November, Sainsbury's applied for licensing permission to sell alcohol at the new store from 7am – 11pm, to which Richmond Council has approved despite locals concerns that this could cause antisocial behaviour in the area.
