Currently if you are not able to cross the 52 step footbridge at Teddington station you need to walk 20 minutes down the road to change platforms.

That however could be about to change.

Network Rail have submitted plans to the department for transport to build two lifts onto the existing footbridge.

This means the station would have step free access.

Here is a statement from Network Rail: "To add lifts to the footbridge we need to construct lift shafts and motor rooms which have planning permission granted by London Borough of Richmond.

"Some land will be required temporarily for construction purposes and some will be required permanently for one of the new lifts.

"Subject to securing the necessary land, the works will be constructed in 2022/23.

"We will keep disruption from our work to a minimum at all times while carrying out this essential project and inform the local community about the works so construction can continue safely."

If this application to the Department of Transport is approved is will grant Network Rail the powers to acquire the land and rights necessary for the works to be delivered.

So how about cost? Network Rail estimate the final works will cost around £3.6 million.

The work is scheduled to take place between 2022 and 2023.

The plans are currently 'under consideration' by the department of transport.
