A popular Hampton Hill pub is set to reopen with a completely different look after a huge £500,000 revamp and return to its old name.

The Duke of Clarence in Hampton Hill, previously called the Bloated Mallard, is set to open its doors again in May after major changes which include a revamped beer garden, freshly kitted out conservatory and new menu.

Opposite Bushy Park, the venue on Hampton Hill High Street will now be a gastropub serving food and drink – including British classics, real ales, fine wines and cocktails. The pub, part of the Stonegate Group, is divided into a main bar, lounge and conservatory dining area which have been transformed. It is set to reopen at a launch party in the first week of May.

The reopening comes after new co-owner Ricardo Azevedo took over the venue with Gary and Jenni O'Connell, who manage two other local Stonegate Group pubs – The Railway in Teddington and The Greyhound in Kew.

The pub's large bar has been refurbished and features new seats, while the renovated conservatory now sports a botanical theme – with a bright, floral dining area, open-planned kitchen and banquette seating.

The pub also worked with Waddesdon Winery to transform the venue's large garden – creating the Roseblood Garden. It has been divided into three areas – a raised deck with high and low tables, an astroturfed dining area with space for 50 people and an area with fresh grass, deckchairs, a pop-up bar and a pergola swing.

The pub will stock a range of drinks including real ales, spirits, fine wines, cocktails and soft drinks. It will also have a new food menu including breakfast, a set lunch, à la carte and children's menus over the day. The venue is thought to date back earlier than 1830.

Mr Azevedo said: "Myself and the team are thrilled to have taken on the Duke of Clarence and cannot wait for it to be open to welcome customers back. The investment has really transformed the pub and we are all in love with how it looks.

"There is so much for customers to explore, from happy hours and weekly specials to fresh Cornish fish direct from the boats. Our guests are always our priority, and we want to provide an offering and space that everyone can feel and enjoy."

He added: "We believe this investment will allow our customers to have a space away from home where they can enjoy time with their family and friends."
