From the editor's desk: reputation is crucial in journalism
It has been another busy week in the world of Teddington Nub News.
There's been a fair bit going on as the advent calendar continues to ramp up.
Plus we will be announcing tomorrow the 12 good causes we will be featuring over the festive period.
So make sure you visit the site everyday between Wednesday December 23rd and Sunday January 3rd.
Reputation is everything
Having a good reputation is crucial in journalism.
And as a journalist it would be remiss of me not to talk about the goings at Sky News over the past week.
Following a meal with 10 people at a restaurant and then a further four going back to her home the likes of Breakfast Show host Kay Burley and Political Editor Beth Rigby have been taken off-air, for six and three months respectively.
I'm not here to pass judgement on the punishment so whether you think its a humiliation or a free holiday - that's really up to you.
However as journalists this is a shocking mistake from Burley and co.
The COVID rules are hard. There's no getting away from that - however they simply have to be followed - especially as a journalist in the public eye.
Earlier in this year both Kay Burley and Beth Rigby were excellent in their questioning of politicians around the Dominic Cummings fiasco.
It was broadcast journalism at its finest - calling the most senior politicians in the land to account.
So for them to think this party was remotely ok feels like a bit of a slap in the face.
Journalists, rightly or wrongly, have at best a mixed bag of a reputation - so to see a number of such prominent ones break the rules so blatantly is so, so disappointing.
Regardless of whether you think their punishment was justified or not their reputation may never recover.
And for a journalist holding the government to account that could well be a blow they cannot recover from.
