The Richmond Rehabilitation Unit has successfully completed a second eight-week programme of dance-based exercise classes for people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), made possible through the generous funding of The League of Friends of Teddington Memorial Hospital.
Delivered by Combination Dance Company, the sessions offered were enthusiastically received by participants.
Feedback collected by specialist nurse Jancie showed that 90 per cent of respondents found the classes pitched at exactly the right level, with comments praising both physical and emotional benefits of the sessions.
Participants reported feeling more confident, more mobile, and uplifted by the experience.
Comments included:
- "It made me feel good."
- "It is absolutely beneficial."
- "Really helpful... Faye is excellent and very encouraging."
Physiotherapist Ciaran attended the classes to support with clinical questions and follow-up appointments, while Nurse Administrator Kasia provided ongoing encouragement to help patients attend regularly.
These dance sessions are offered as a short-term taster to help people transition to ongoing movement, either through Combination Dance's online MS sessions or by establishing a local, permanent class currently being explored.
