A Twickenham clothing boutique has turned to the community for support after suffering from two robberies in the space of two months.

Maggie May London on Church Street is aiming to raise £1,000 through crowdfunding to repair the shop windows damaged by burglars in the early hours of Thursday, 11 July.

So far £465 has been raised by the local community, including neighbouring businesses, who also offer messages of support on the crowdfund.

On the Crowdfunder website, it states: "Maggie May London on Church Street has been broken into twice in as many weeks. Her door was smashed and thousands of pounds of merchandise was stolen.

"She replaced the door and put bars across it. Last night, her main window was smashed and more goods were stolen.

"She is unable to open the store today until forensics come to the scene and will have to replace the window and consider ugly bars or some other form of additional security to stop this happening again.

"I want to show my support for Maggie and hopefully as a community we can show that we are behind her.

"We don't want mindless thugs to drive entrepreneurs like Maggie away from Church Street so hopefully this will give Maggie a boost at this sad time for her."

Linda Birch, a local resident, told Nub News that the police have offered to install temporary CCTV on Church Street but that it is "too late."

She said: "Poor Maggie May Church Street clothing boutique has been targeted a second time by a burglary costing her well over £30,000 in lost items.

"The Church St Association and other traders along Church St have long been campaigning for CCTV and repairs to street lights along Church St and in the car park behind it.

"Recently traders spoke directly to Police and we were advised that we would get a temporary CCTV camera at the end of Church St but this has come too late now."

Confirming the incident, the Met Police say: "Police are investigating a burglary that took place in the early hours of the morning on Thursday, 11 July at a business venue in Church Street, Twickenham.

"Two suspects had broken into the property and stolen a number of items.

"An investigation was launched by the local burglary squad and later that morning a 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

"He was taken into custody where he was charged with this offence and others and remanded to prison.

"One male remains outstanding and enquiries continue. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or 'X' @MetCC and quote the investigation reference 01/577727/24.

"You can also provide information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

It added: "At this time there is no known link to a previous burglary at the same venue. Enquiries continue into that offence and there has been no arrest."
