Bushy Park is the top (not) Parkrun in the country, it was disclosed today.
The (not) Parkrun in Bushy Park has received more entries than any other (not) Parkrun event in the UK
The event encouraged regular Park runners to record their individual 5k efforts at any time they want and then post them online as the lockdown has closed down the regular Saturday morning Parkrun which attracts over 1000 runners in Bushy Park.
The 5k could be a run, walk or jog and participants were encouraged to submit their times at the location they would normally attend.
Bushy Park - known for its well attended Parkrun - received the highest number of entries in the country with 160 registering times over the past week.
Events Director for Bushy Park Parkrun, Rob Phillips, said:"We encourage anyone to take part.
"The idea is that you can still feel part of the Parkrun community while not attending the actual event.
"We've been impressed with the take up and were very proud to have the most runners in the country during the first week."
Rob also said that runners should complete the 5km at any time throughout the week - whether that's Monday morning or Sunday afternoon.
The runners are also encouraged to wear apricot t-shirts with personalised messages on them.
While running was not compulsory some very respectable times were still posted with Will Rawling completing 5km in a very respectable 17:50.
The average time across all the runners at Bushy however was a much more leisurely 30:27 seconds.
Existing Park runners do not need to re-register and times will not count towards any parkrun milestones.
The organisers at Parkrun insist however that this is not a replacement for Parkrun or a 'new normal' and that the 5km challenge will be back in its original form as soon as it is safe to do so.
They describe the (not) Parkrun as a bit like a 'Freedom Run' which is an opportunity for regular Park runners to 'self-declare' the date and time of a walk, jog or run and at the same time represent your home parkrun.
You can record up to one activity per day, with your fastest time each week included in a weekly results table.
