REVIEW: Pinnova restaurant brings an authentic taste of Pan Asia to Teddington

By Tilly O'Brien   12th Jan 2026

Pinnova Teddington, which is located in the site of the former Bade Turkish restaurant on Teddington's High Street, opened its doors to the community on 20 December.

As a big fan of sushi and Pan-Asian food, I knew I just had to try it.

So, my partner and I visited Pinnova on the evening of Saturday, 10 January.

While, according to one of Pinnova's staff, the restaurant was "really busy" throughout December, it was pretty quiet on Saturday – not surprising given the sub-zero temperatures over the weekend.

But, nevertheless, it still had several diners popping in throughout the night.

Upon entering Pinnova on Saturday, I was immediately delighted with how pristine the restaurant is and how friendly and welcoming the staff are.

To my joy, we were seated near the front window, which is decorated with a string of fairy lights, perfect for the winter nights, and covered with a spectacular Japanese-style flower canopy, which had me feeling as though I was in sunny Japan rather than freezing Teddington.

The back wall boasts a big grass welcome board with a lovely lighted sign, showcasing the restaurant's name, Pinnova, which is a fusion of "Pinner" and "Innovation", relating to the restaurants original branch in Pinner.

According to the restaurant's owner, Vinyak, he decided to open a second restaurant in Teddington because it is a "beautiful area" and an "amazing location next to the river".

As Vinyak's first restaurant is located in Pinner, which has a large Asian community who enjoy top levels of spice in their food, the owner told us that he is planning to enhance the Teddington menu to make it "less spicy" and to include more tempura dishes, which will be better suited to the Teddington community.

He explained that the current menu is "just a trial menu".

While the restaurant is on the slightly smaller side, it is spacious and has enough seating to host several diners.

To set the mood, the restaurant was playing light pop tunes at a perfect volume that was loud enough to hear, but not too loud that you cannot hear who you're dining with.

Now on to the main part, the food. The food at Pinnova Teddington is ten out of ten and our meal was definitely the best I have had recently and is actually very reasonably priced despite the quality of food.

To start, under the recommendation of one of Pinnova's lovely staff members, we shared the Sake Urmaki (£13.50) and Crispy Spider (£15.50) sushi platters.

We also tried the Prawn Hargo (£13.50) from the Dimsum & Dumpling section with a large glass of vino (also reasonably priced).

The food came fairly quickly, giving it enough time to be cooked properly but quick enough so that we were not sat waiting hungrily.

It was also beautifully laid out with cutlery and chopsticks (for those who can use them) provided.

We absolutely loved the Prawn Hargo (Steamed prawn Dimsum served with chilli mayo sauce) and would definitely get it again.

The soft, melt-in-your mouth texture made the dish satisfying to eat and it was bursting with flavour.

My partner literally called it "insane".

I would also strongly recommend the Crispy Spider sushi platter (tempura crab, tobiko, mix leaves salad, spicy mayo, tempura flakes, & teriyaki glaze) - which Pinnova's staff says is their most popular sushi dish - as it is absolutely divine.

The soft texture of the sushi rice mixed with the crunchiness of the tempura gave it that perfect blemish of textures.

The sweet teriyaki mixed with spicy mayo also gave a burst of flavour that had a little kick without being too spicy.

We also loved the Sake Urmaki (salmon, avocado, Japanese mayo, and tobako), which is more like the kind of sushi you can pick up in M&S, but of course, much, much tastier.

Both sushi dishes were traditionally served with wasabi, pickled ginger, and soy sauce to add some extra flavour (not that they needed it).

Just before our mains arrived, we decided to try one of Pinnova's various Japanese-themed signature cocktails, the Japanese Mai Thai (£12.90 – the standard price for a cocktail these days).

This is an excellent spin on the traditional Mai Thai with a tasty sprinkle of coconut flakes surrounding the glass's rim and the innovative idea to add an ice cube which causes the drink to interchange flashing colours, which was super cool.

Pinnova also sells a variety of classic cocktails for the less adventurous.

For mains, I had the Miso Black Cod (£25.50), which consists of 24-hour marinated black cod, sake, cumin & miso paste served with tender steam broccoli & lime, and my partner opted for the Pinnova Rendang Lamb Shank (£21.50), which is one of Pinnova's most popular dishes and consists of a Malaysian spicy curry topped with roasted coconut flakes and served with jasmine rice.

Our mains came in a similar fashion as our starters, and both were absolutely incredible.

Now, I have had Black Cod at Nobu before, and I must say Pinnova's was even tastier, which, despite Nobu's notoriety and the decent price of Pinnova's dish, reflects on how excellent Pinnova is.

I would even go as far as to say that it was the best dish I have ever had – I was literally lost for words, and that rarely happens.

There was something about how well the fish was cooked, making its crumbly texture melt in my mouth, and the heavenly flavour of the miso, which made it super tasty too. That with the crunchiness of the broccoli made it absolutely divine.

My partner tried a bit too, and despite loving his main, said we will have to return so he could get the Black Cod.

He said: "It's the best fish I've ever had."

My partner loved the lamb, which he said was "buttery" and melted in his mouth.

He said while the meat was "slightly heavy, it was quite refined with the tinge of spice bringing it extra flavour and a Bengali feel.

He added that the rice was cooked to perfection.

Our meal left us feeling that perfect level of full, full enough to not be able to fit dessert in (even though they looked delicious) but not that sicky full feeling.

Our experience at Pinnova truly was ten-out-of-ten, not just because the food was amazing, but because of how superbly professional the staff were – each being that perfect balance of attentive but not overbearing.

Each member of staff was clued up on the menu and ensured that we had the top dining experience.

I can see Pinnova Teddington being extremely popular and applaud Vinyak on opening an excellent restaurant.

The restaurant also has a lunchtime special offer, including one main meal and a drink for £13.95 or one veggie main meal and a drink for £12.95, which is an absolute bargain I would say!

Pinnova Teddington is open from 12pm – 3pm and 5.30pm – 10pm Tuesday – Friday, 12pm – 10pm on Saturdays, and 12pm – 9.30pm on Sundays.
