It's official - Teddington is the best place to live in London.

But don't take our word for it - The Sunday Times have named Teddington as the best location the capital.

The newspaper cited our fantastic local business and community spirit as the reason fo victory.

Now Teddington residents have reacted to the great news.

Natalie O'Rourke, the Founder of the Park Lane Stables in Teddington which was saved by a community driven crowd-funding campaign with over £1 million raised, told Nub News.

"I am a Brummie living in Teddington so not a typical Teddington type. Teddington is like a very friendly village. My friends have a misconception that because I live in 'London' that I am up in town in the bright lights.

"I honestly feel so privileged to live here and so lucky. The community have literally put their arms around us in the face of our crisis and we have truly felt so loved. People that don't use the stables have let us know how much the horses mean to them in Teddington and how they really want us to remain.

"There are many people living in Teddington with exceptional skills who have reached out to us to offer these amazing skills and we are so grateful for their support going forwards."

Lucy Rock from Teddington Together added:

"As Teddington Together we are over the moon, but of course not surprised, for our wonderful community to be recognised as such a great place to live. Throughout the last year particularly we have seen our traders and residents truly pull together and work as a team supporting eachother in any we can.

"Teddington has so many hidden gems from Sidra, Roan Records, Vidatherapy on Church Road, Gosia Cafe, J Coutts Jewellers, Toast Cafe and The Fun Factory on Broad Street and Causeway not forgetting all the shops and cafes on Waldegrave and Stanley Road too. It's a fabulous eclectic mix of everything you could need or want. And that is thanks to the people who live and work here.

"As shops re open, Teddington Together are aiming to make it as much of a celebration as possible (covid restrictions allowing), so we are installing Union flags above all the shops and High Street, Broad Street, Waldegrave Road, Stanley Road, Causeway and Church Road, a symbol of lockdown and spirits lifting!

"In addition we have decided to hold an extra street party this year too. Saturday 11th September will be Proms Not In The Park 1pm - 6pm, a celebration of our all our local businesses and residents, there will be 2 stages with live music, market stalls and lots of attractions for all the family. Hope to see you all there!"

As reported earlier local MP Munira Wilson told Nub News: "I am not surprised Teddington has been named the best place to live in London.

"We are blessed with wonderful open spaces like Bushy Park, and access to the Thames river paths. Having places to walk, exercise or just sit and watch the world go by has never been more important than in the year just gone.

"Teddington also has a wonderful community sprit, which shone this year with the campaign to save the Park Lane Stables. Local people rallied around when this local facility for young disabled people was threatened.

"The businesses on our highstreet have adapted amazingly well to the challenges of moving to takeaway or online but we all look forward to the return of happy shoppers in April."
