A flood alert has been raised in the Teddington area.

The alert comes as rain is forecast for the next 24 hours.

The flood warning is in place for the whole River Thames between Teddington and Putney.

The warning reads: "Flooding of low-lying roads and footpaths is expected, which may exist for one to two hours either side of high tide.

"Flooding of properties is not expected. We believe there is a possibility of flooding at the Towpath below Teddington Lock.

"Astronomical tide levels are rising. The river flow at Teddington Weir is normal for this time of year at 118 cubic metres per second and is rising.

"We anticipate that the flows will continue to rise for the next few days."
