A fantastic day at Teddington RFC on Saturday kicked off with a fabulous Vice Presidents lunch and ended in another comprehensive win for the 1st XV against Old Freemens.

It was a day of celebration at the club, starting off by honouring new vice presidents Andrea Legrand, Sam Olsen, Angus Foster and Pete Church at our pre match meal, followed by Matt Poole and James Frankenberger winning their 100th and 50th 1st XV caps respectively.

Teddington took the opportunity to rotate their squad for this one, a luxury they haven't been used to in recent seasons, but such is the strength in depth this term, that the line-up looked no weaker as a result. 1st XV captain Jack Miller was rested, with hooker Dan Robertshaw stepping up to lead the side.

There was a welcome return to 1st XV action for Emmo Allen after a long injury and an opportunity to give Teddington RFC Colt Gabe Roberts a run from the bench.

Playing into a stiff wind in the first half, the Antlers didn't waste much time getting on the scoreboard; an Adam Causer try, converted by Bob Beevers gave them a 7-0 lead.

Old Freemans responded well though and had the better of the rest of the first half as they made use of the conditions. They scored 2 trys and kicked a penalty to go into the break with a 7-15 lead.

As it was last week, the league leaders would have to come from behind to secure the win, but with the elements now in their favour, they were confident of getting the job done.

They did that with style as they scored 43 unanswered points in a second half of full of confident running rugby.

There were a brace of trys for both Rory Mercer and Max Aitken, a debut try for Roberts and one from Allen to seal the 5 points.

With five games to go in the league we are now reaching the sharp end of the season and with the 3 sides at the top all due to play each other, everything is up for grabs.

Teddington are in pole position without a doubt, still defending a 100% record and eight points clear of Chipstead who are in 2nd.

The 2nd XV travelled to Sutton & Epsom on Saturday looking to build on their impressive win last week. Trys from Jasper Gibb and Tom Boynton saw the Antlers hold a lead halfway through the second half, but the hosts turned the screw late on scoring some trys out wide to secure the victory.

A setback for the 2nd XV as they strive for merit table promotion. With still a few games to go, and points to be claimed, they'll be looking to bounce back in the coming weeks.

Final Score Sutton & Epsom 3rd XV 35 Teddington 2nd XV 17.

On Sunday, the women entertained London Welsh and although the result didn't go their way, the steady improvement the team are making was clear to see. There was a try for Aimee Templeman and stand out performances from Rosie Newton and Chloe Cooper.

It's no secret that this league is providing a very tough challenge for the team as they try and build playing numbers and momentum, but the commitment they showed, particularly in defence, will stand them in great stead as they move forward.
