Hampton and Richmond could not recover from a pair of first half goals as they lost 2-0 against Dover Athletic in National League South.

Jake Goodman scored after two minutes to get Hampton off to a nightmare start, before Luke Wanadio converted a penalty late in the first half.

The Beavers were improved after the break and put the Whites under pressure as they created a series of openings but failed to make good on them.

This loss is Hampton's fifth in six National League South matches and they drop below Tauton Town to 17th in the standings.

Dover scored almost immediately as a well worked corner routine saw the ball moved to the top of the box to Alfie Paxman, and once he sorted his feet out, he looped a ball into the middle and the ball was flicked onto the head of Goodman and he nodded it beyond Matteo Salamon.

It was a good response from the Beavers as Stefan Ilic quickly sent Francis Amartey in down the side; he came inside his defender but the shot rolled into the gloves of Stuart Nelson.

After 35 minutes Ilic received the ball 25 yards out and busted out his dancing feet as he spun beyond two defenders and lined up his shot, which went straight at the 'keeper.

With 7 minutes remaining in the half Dean Inman raised his arms as a corner was swung in and the ball struck them, giving away a penalty that Wanadio stepped up to take and sent Salamon the wrong way.

After half-time Hampton came out and looked to apply pressure, Connor Kurran-Browne got down the right and sent in a good-looking ball that just eluded Tommy Wood.

Jack McLoughlin won the ball back in midfield and the pitch opened up ahead of him, he ran into the empty space and his shot was deflected behind for a corner.

Jake Gray lined up a corner and delivered it deep into the box onto the head of Inman and the ball looped up over the goalkeeper and it was cleared off the line.

The pitch came to the Beavers' rescue late doors as Jordan Higgs switched the play to Alfie Pavey and he flicked a header to send Luke Baptiste in behind but as he prepared to slot it beyond Salamon, the ball bobbled up and he sent it high over the goal.

In stoppage time Liam Vincent came up with a huge block to prevent a certain goal, as George Wilkinson sent a low drive ball to the back post to Baptiste and as he was tucking it in, Vincent came out of nowhere to dive in front on the ball and send it behind.
