Gary McCann said it was a nice moment to be able to bring two academy graduates onto the pitch during Hampton and Richmond's 2-0 defeat against Dover Athletic.

Two first half goals from the Whites proved to be enough at the Rocket Hospitality Beveree Stadium as Hampton fell to their fifth loss in six.

McCann had five academy players on the bench in an injury-depleted squad and Charlie George and Redor Omar-Anitah were both brought off the bench to make their first team debuts.

Speaking to club media, he said: "We brought them [George and Omar-Anitah] into different areas of the pitch than they were used to, but they have to get used to that, that can happen when they go into senior football.

"They find themselves either making their debuts or being thrown on into areas that they are not quite familiar with.

"It was nice to get them both on the pitch, we had five academy boys on the bench, which is credit to the academy, Steve [Bates] and Dale [Blair].

"Dale has had a lot of input between first team and academy, which has been really good and it was something that we spoke of in the summer.

"It was good to get them two on the pitch, obviously it hasn't resulted in a win for them, but I am sure they will take a lot of pride in that.

"That is what the academy is put together for, to get moments like today and two debuts is a fitting tribute."
