Teddington Women's 1st X1 went into a nailbiter of a weekend for their last game of the 24/25 Conference East season, level at the top of the table on 40 points with Hampstead and Westminster Women's 2nd XI.

For Teddington to secure the title, they needed to win against London Wayfarers, while Hampstead and Westminster had to lose or draw.

18 minutes into the nervy match on a fine spring day, it was the opposition who opened their account first with a well-worked penalty corner goal, but Teddington responded swiftly, equalising with their own penalty corner finish from Blackwood just two minutes later.

The teams went in level at half-time in an end-to-end battle.

The second half saw Bisdee draw the first blood scoring from a penalty corner, giving Teddington a 2-1 advantage, but Wayfarers quickly hit back, finding the back of the net just four minutes later to level the score.

With just over a quarter remaining, Teddington Hockey Club (THC) knew they had to press on.

Dougan scored the third goal for Teddington, putting them 3-2 up, but the worry was the goal difference might not be enough to clinch the title if Hampstead were to emerge victorious.

With 12 minutes left on the clock, Robson secured a fourth goal for Teddington, establishing a strong lead, but they had to soak up a lot of pressure before the final whistle.

Running out 4-2 winners, the Teddington women were left in agonising suspense, anxiously awaiting the crucial update from the other fixtures.

Had the Old Georgians, placed eighth in the table, managed to secure an unlikely win or draw?

Then came the news - Hampstead had drawn 2-2, and with that result, Teddington Women's 1st XI had made history.

The tireless dedication and hard work throughout the season had paid off.

Both coach Taj Dogra and player-coach Ruth Evans were overjoyed to have led the team to the league title.

There were some very proud Champions at the oldest hockey club in the world.
