Old Loughtonians 1 - 2 Teddington Men's 1s
The hockey season started with a bang last weekend as England Hockey Division South threw together two teams who finished at the top end of the table last season as Teddington travelled away to Old Loughtonians.
Teddington Men's 1s lined up with new faces in Jack Stubbings, Amrit Singh and Nick Elder but largely remained unchanged from last season's young and promising side.
Despite playing away, Teddington started on the front foot, enjoying large amounts of possession and despite controlling the game and creating some strong opportunities, they were unable to capitalise until the 2nd Quarter. It came from a penetrating long ball from the Teddington captain, Murray Collins to new signing Nick Elder who received the ball on the opposition baseline. With the Old Loughts goalkeeper eagerly stepping off his line to anticipate the cross, he then watched disparingly as the ball went high over his shoulder at the near post in an audacious shot.
The away sides continued to dominate and they doubled their advantage with a well struck penalty corner from Kyle White in the 3rd quarter.
Old Loughts are never a team to lie down and showed their quality to get themselves back into the game. After mounting pressure, the home side struck back with a well worked penalty corner routine. That meant game on with 10 minutes to go.
It was a scrappy finish however, but Teddington avoided any late drama thanks to some fantastic goalkeeping from George Oyebode.
This coming weekend Teddington face recently promoted Havant in a home game at Broom Road, Teddington.
