Speculation has been rife about the future of Teddington's Park Lane Stables since they were forced to leave their home in Park Lane by their landlord and set up a temporary base at Manor Farm near Ham Polo Club.

The Stables mounted a massive SOS (Save Our Stables) crowd-funding campaign and raised over £1.3m with donations from all over the world and generated publicity across TV, radio and print in an effort to buy the stables and keep their home in Park Lane, sadly without success.

Contracts of up to £275 million are on offer as contractors are sought for the River Thames flood alleviation scheme in Surrey, which will see Teddington Lock get an upgrade.

The Environment Agency is calling for interested civil engineering and construction firms to express their interest following the government's approval of the £501 million scheme.

Teddington high street is due to get extra protection against residential developments, as Richmond Council fights to secure the borough's town centres and shopping parades that it says are left vulnerable by new government planning laws.

In a press release released on Wednesday (4 August) the Council confirmed it has taken action so that developers will not be able to use a Permitted Development Right to convert commercial premises into houses or flats.
