Woman taken to hospital after Twickenham flat fire
By Cesar Medina 17th Feb 2026
Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a blaze at a property on Kenley Road in Twickenham last night (16 February).
The fire broke out in a mid-terraced house that had been converted into flats. Half of a first-floor flat was damaged by the fire.
One woman was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service suffering from smoke inhalation.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was alerted at 10:25pm, with control officers mobilising crews from Heston, Twickenham, Richmond and Kingston fire stations.
The fire was brought under control by 11:25pm.
The blaze is believed to have been caused by a fault with a washing machine.
A LFB spokesperson said: "This incident serves as an important reminder to make sure that your white goods aren't a hidden fire hazard in your home.
"If your white goods start making strange noises, don't ignore it. If you think there's a problem always unplug it and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician.
"Most fires where white goods are the source of ignition are not down to anything you have done – so always make sure you register your appliances as you'll be informed if any issues are identified with the product you've bought."
