Friday 19 January
Lunchtime Book Club, Landmark Arts Centre, 1-2pm
Do you have a passion for reading? Then why not join the Landmark Arts Centre every month, when people come together in reading and reviewing a wide selection of books. The friendly sessions are the perfect way to meet like-minded readers and discover exciting new reads. This month's book is Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.
Brave New World is a searching vision of an unequal, technologically-advanced future where humans are genetically bred, socially indoctrinated, and pharmaceutically anesthetized to passively uphold an authoritarian ruling order–all at the cost of our freedom, full humanity, and perhaps also our souls.
Sancho & Me- for one night only, Twickenham Exchange, 7:30pm
A performance by actor and writer Paterson Joseph (Peep Show, Vigil, Wonka) with Musical Director Ben Park onstage, delivered directly to the audience, part-improvised each night and built around his recent novel THE SECRET DIARIES OF CHARLES IGNATIUS SANCHO.
Charles Ignatius Sancho was born on a slave ship on the Atlantic Ocean in 1729, yet he became a writer, composer, shopkeeper and respected 'man of letters' in 18th century London.
SANCHO & ME – FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY explores ideas of belonging, language, education, slavery, commerce, violence, threat, politics, music and love – and where these themes intersect with Paterson's own story of being Black and British.
The Father, Hampton Hill Theatre, 7:45pm
Florian Zeller's award winning tragi/comedy about the effects of Alzheimer's disease, on the sufferer and those who love them. With our mind being the seat of our identity, If we are not 'ourselves' then, who exactly are we? Runs until 20 January.
