UPDATE: Teddington's main recycling centre re-opens after huge fire

By Ellie Brown - Local Democracy Reporter 5th Nov 2021

Teddington's main waste and recycling centre has now reopened but is still operating at a reduced capacity following a huge fire last month.

Booking is now essential at Townmead Road Re-use and Recycling Centre, and visitors arriving without a booking will be turned away. There is also no pedestrian access to the site.

At present you cannot take cardboard to recycle on site.

You can book a slot here.

On June 20, 100 tonnes of waste caught fire at the tip.

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to the scene, working late into the night to dampen down the area.

The fire was under control by 11.24pm thanks to fire crews from Richmond, Heston, Chiswick, Hammersmith, Wandsworth and other surrounding fire stations.

Following the closure of the Townmead Road centre, residents in Richmond upon Thames were instructed to take their household waste elsewhere.

You can find a list of alternative recycling sites HERE
