Maintenance works on Teddington and Lock Cut footbridge will start 29 August 2023 and are set to be completed towards the end of the year.

Richmond Council confirmed the 'essential' work included removing of corrosion and applying of a new protective paint system.

It said: "When undertaking works of this nature and on a structure of this age we may find that the condition of the bridge differs from prior assessments.

"We will make every endeavour to carry out this phase of works within the period we have outlined but will inform you at the earliest opportunity if we anticipate works will take longer than expected."

The expected duration of the works is based on information the council has been able to obtain through site investigations work, undertaken in advance of the actual works.

A press release from Richmond Council stated: "We have worked closely with the contractor and designers to ensure that access across the bridges is maintained during normal working hours.

"There will however be the requirement for some limited closures to the bridge (which will take place overnight) to undertake some of the works. These closures will therefore allow the majority of essential journeys to remain unaffected during busier times."

Signs will be in place advising of the closure dates and times, as and when they are required.

The council said the work will be carried out in phases to "minimise the impact on the public".

It added: "some of the less disruptive works started in June but are now ready to commence the main bridge refurbishment works."

The second phase of works will include the replacement of the approach ramp from Ferry Road. The council state it will have more details of when this will be carried out in "due course".
