It is hard to believe just over a week has passed since England were crowned European champions and Chloe Kelly's winner sent 87,192 fans at Wembley, and indeed those across the country, into scenes of pure elation.

Teddington's luxury riverside resort, The Lensbury, witnessed first-hand Sarina Wiegman and her side propel their way to European Glory as the club played host to the Lionesses during Euro 2022.

The Lensbury were informed in early 2021 they would be accommodating one of the 16 teams competing at the European Championships, however, the news that they would in fact be welcoming the hosts of this summer's tournament, was not revealed until later down the line.

The riverside club has become a base for many elite sports teams in recent years including the England's Men Rugby Team, and the Lionesses decided to follow suit this summer.

Following a £1.2 million investment in 2019, The Lensbury boasts two UEFA sized pitches, 22 tennis courts, an elite level heated indoor pool with advanced thermal suites, state-of-the-art gyms, massage rooms, ice baths and a water sports centre with direct access to the Thames.

Naturally, the premium Teddington club wanted to ensure their loyal-members were being taken care of whilst maintaining privacy for the Lionesses during their European campaign, with stakes high and the Nation edging them on to go all the way.

Claire Llewellin-Davis, managing director at The Lensbury stressed how the entire squad relieved the stress of accommodating for all their guests due to their down to earth nature and warmth which was felt by all of the club's members.

She said: "I honestly couldn't speak higher of the entire squad. The warmth and the genuine nature you saw from your television screens is exactly what was reflected behind closed doors and we couldn't have asked for a better set of guests.

"They would not hesitate to stop and chat to members in-between sessions and to see them interacting with the young girls was particularly poignant, for many of whom they are role models to."

Reflecting on the day of the final, Llewellin-Davis admitted she and the rest of the Lensbury team were quietly confident that the Lionesses would go on to glory and ensured there were big screens across the grounds for members and staff to watch and get behind their special guests.

Despite the final whistle blowing at around half seven on the Sunday, the squad did not make it back to their Teddington base till 11pm where they were treated to a hero's welcome from Teddington residents and beyond.

The Lionesses' choice to celebrate at their base where they had stayed throughout the European Championships played testament to the warm and welcoming reception they clearly felt from Llewellin-Davis and her staff throughout their stay, and the Lensbury's managing director underlined it was an honour to host their historic triumph.

"It was a night I and the rest of the team will never forget. From the ladies jumping off the coach in pure euphoria celebrating with locals with the trophy, to the hotel celebrations with cake, champagne and dancing.

"So many of the team came over to staff members to thank them for such a memorable stay and for making them feel so at home with lovely gifts, and that's what we're all about at The Lensbury – creating a home from home for our guests."

Despite a baptism of fire in her new role at The Lensbury, after only becoming managing director a few weeks prior to the Lionesses arrival, Llewellin-Davis is excited for what the future holds for the riverside resort and looks forward to welcoming elite sports teams back to Teddington now that they have established their lucky charm!
